Your privacy matters. This policy explains how Celebrations handles your information.
Information We Collect
Celebrations does not collect any information from you. The app does not have servers, does not require an account, and does not connect to the internet.
All data you enter — including names, dates of birth, photos, phone numbers, notes, events, and family relationships — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
How Your Data Is Used
Data you enter is used solely to provide the features of the app:
- Displaying your people, their upcoming events, and urgency indicators
- Generating local push notifications for important dates
- Rendering the calendar, family tree, and statistics views
- Producing PDF exports, JSON backups, GEDCOM files, and CSV exports at your request
- Pre-filling messages when you use the Send Message feature
None of this data leaves your device.
Photos
Celebrations may request access to your photo library so you can add profile photos for the people you track. This permission is only used when you explicitly choose to add or update a photo. Profile photos are stored on-device only and are never uploaded or transmitted anywhere.
You can manage this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Celebrations → Photos.
Messaging (SMS / iMessage)
When an upcoming event is within 14 days, Celebrations offers a shortcut to send a personalised message to that person. Tapping this button opens your device's native messaging app (Messages, WhatsApp, or another app you choose) with a pre-filled message and the recipient's phone number.
Celebrations does not send messages on your behalf, does not access your messages or contacts, and does not transmit phone numbers or message content anywhere. All messaging is handled entirely by the app you select.
Notifications
Celebrations uses Apple's local notification system to remind you of upcoming events. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and do not require an internet connection or any data to be sent externally.
You can enable or disable notifications, choose how far in advance you are reminded, and filter by event type in Settings → Notifications. You can also manage notification permissions in iOS Settings → Celebrations → Notifications.
Backups and Exports
The app provides optional export features for backing up or sharing your data:
- JSON backup — a complete backup of all people and events, including photos, saved as a file on your device.
- GEDCOM export — a genealogy-standard file compatible with apps such as Ancestry or MacFamilyTree.
- CSV export — a spreadsheet-compatible file that opens in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets.
- PDF export — a visual family tree diagram you can share or print.
All files are created locally. They are only shared if you explicitly choose to share them (e.g. via AirDrop, email, or Files). We have no access to these files.
Your device's system backup (iCloud Backup or Finder) may include Celebrations app data as part of a full device backup. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Third-Party Services
Celebrations does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. There are no SDKs in the app that collect or transmit data.
Children's Privacy
Celebrations is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
